Sylvester C. Lewis (Bootsy) is the lead guitarist for The New Singing Disciples. His
father taught him how to play the guitar at an early age and as a teenager played the
guitar for a few R&B groups. He always had a love for southern gospel music and during
the mid 1990's the Lord brought him to play with The New Singing Disciples.
He was born in Hague, Virginia and now lives in Bowie, Md. He joined the Potomac Baptist
Church at early age and sung on the junior choir. Sylvester graduated from A.T. Johnson
High school located in Templeman, Virginia and moved to Washington, DC.
Immediately upon graduation, he started to work for the Department of Defense (DoD)
at Fort Meade, Maryland. While there, during the LBJ Administration, he was detailed to
the White House and drafted into the army. During a two year army tour, he served
nineteen months in Germany. After his military obligation, he returned to work for the
DoD and later married Doris Johnson and fathered two children (Sharron and Donte').
He extended his education at the Prince George's Community College, in Maryland and
earned an AA degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. After 37 years of service with the federal government as a Senior Electronic Technician, he retired and returned fourteen months later as a DoD contractor.
